Invitation from ICST Fr. Rector, Fr. John Habawel:
Greetings from the seminary!
This is to invite you to attend a theology lecture on the occasion of our Academic-Pastoral Function here in ICST. It will be given by a world renowned theologian, Fr. Diarmuid O’Murchu. Fr. O’Murchu is also a social psychologist, a member of the Sacred Heart Missionary Congregation. He wrote very important books in theology, including the popular Quantum Theology: Spiritual Implcations of the New Physics. He is based in London. In his talk, he will deal with the reality of changing paradigms, in the world and in the church. This is very relevant because we do need to have a way of grasping and dealing with the fast changes in the society and the church.
This will be held here at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology Aula Magna (Auditorium) on February 6, 2009 (Friday), from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. (We will ask for a registration fee of 100 peso for the two meriendas of the day.)
Join us in this symposium and take the time to listen to a great theologian of our time.
We hope you can come!
Mark your schedule:
February 6, 2009 8:00AM-5:00PM ICST Aula Magna

The doctors at Metro Vigan Cooperative Hospital have allowed Fr. Michael Tanacio to check out of the hospital. They have certified that continuing care may already be given as home care.
There have been improvements in Fr. Michael’s condition. He is now conscious, and is able to recognize. Although he is not able to talk yet, he could smile, raise a thumb up and move his brows to respond. Although he still cannot sit on his own, he could already turn sides on his bed. He may be made to sit and stand for a few moments, but could not still stay that way long.
Fr. Michael checked out this afternoon. He is now at the Domus Patris at the Arzobispado Compound. Constant nursing care is provided him, and visiting doctors will constantly monitor him.
We continue praying his fast recovery, that he may continue to serve God and his people.
Contributions to the fund for the hospitalization of the Clergy is encouraged. The Archbishop has asked parishes to do a second collection on all masses of the first and second Sundays of August. Contributions may also be given to the Chancery at the Arzobispado de Nueva Segovia. Please make all checks payable to the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia Clergy Hospitalization Fund.
May the Lord who cannot be outdone in generosity bless your prayers and generosity.

Archbishop Salgado asked all parishes and communities in the Archdiocese to pray in all masses during the Jubilee Year, the following prayer:
Prayer on the Occasion of the Year of Jubilees
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, source of all life and holiness
we glorify you for giving us St. Paul, most zealous Apostle, martyr for the love of Christ.
As you have empowered St. Paul, give us a deep faith,
a steadfast hope, a burning love for our Lord
so that we can proclaim with conviction as he did,
“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”
As you have sent him, help us to become apostles serving the Church with a pure heart,
witnesses to her truth and beauty amidst the darkness of our days.
We thank you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Lord of History
as we celebrated your gift of our Local Church, Nueva Segovia.
As we journey through lights and shadows,
we ask you to guide us through the path of conversion,
that we may have a change of heart,
a profound transformation of our way of life so that it may be in accord with the Gospel,
and that we may work for liberation from sin and the structures of sin
which perpetuate poverty, oppression and social injustice.
We ask you to lead us on to the path of renewal,
to commit ourselves to the transformation of sinful structures
into structures of grace and liberation, and to renew our Church and social structures
so that they may truly promote human dignity,
serve the common good and bring people to a foretaste of the fullness of life in the Kingdom
We ask you to spur us on to re-commit ourselves to a renewed evangelization,
to a renewed form of catechesis, in a special way for young people,
and in the many facets of media, to a renewed worship and to a renewed social ministry.
We ask you to impel us to reach out in mission towards society
and also towards those who have not heard about Jesus
or those who have insufficient knowledge of him
or those who are not yet in full communion with the Church he founded.
Compassionate Father we bow our heads in contrition
as we confess and confront our sinfulness and the sinfulness of the systems we have put in place
– widespread economic poverty, political imbalance, cultural decadence
and religious underdevelopment.
Spirit of Love and Life sustain us in our enthusiasm and resolve,
transform us into a truly renewed local Church,
gifted with renewed fervor to fulfill its mission of renewed integral evangelization.
Loving Lord Jesus we entrust all our efforts to you,
that we may be truly a sign and instrument of your Kingdom,
as we seek the grace of this year of Jubilees
through the intercession of St. Paul, Apostle to the Gentiles,
and your mother, Apo Caridad, whom you have given us as our mother too.
We praise you God, Father, Son and Spirit now and forever. Amen.

The Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia has been proclaimed an official pilgrimage site by the Holy Father, Benedict XVI through the Apostolic Penitentiary. In the letter from the Apostolic Penitentiary, signed by Cardinal Stafford, plenary indulgence is made available to pilgrims to the Cathedral during the Pauline Year. The Archbishop invites all to a pilgrimage to the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral in Vigan City, dedicated to the Conversion of St. Paul.

Last June 28, 2008, the Archbishop, with the opening of the Jubilee Door at the Cathedral, officially opened the pilgrimages to the Cathedral.

Archbishop Salgado released a Circular, inviting all to receive this grace of the Pauline Year. We quote Circular 5:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Last June 28, 2008, during the Eucharistic Celebration of the Opening of the Year of Jubilees, the Pilgrimages to the Cathedral during the Pauline Year (June 28, 2008 – June 29, 2009) had been officially launched. The Holy Father has granted through the Apostolic Penitentiary, a plenary indulgence for pilgrims to the Cathedral, while following the usual and added requirements, which are as follows:
- Visit to the Cathedral dedicated to the Conversion of St. Paul with a sincere intention to seek God’s compassion and to thank Him for the many graces He has bestowed through the intercession of the Apostle Paul;
- Confession within the previous week and a week thereafter;
- Participation in the Eucharist and reception of Communion during the day of pilgrimage;
- Prayer for the Holy Father (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be)
Private and organized pilgrimages are encouraged. To maximize benefit of the faithful during the pilgrimages, a set of activities have been prepared for organized groups. The activities shall begin at the Aula de Caridad in the Arzobispado Compound, and culminate at the Cathedral. The following will be the activities.
9:30 AM
Arrival and Registration at the Arzobispado
Catechesis on St. Paul
10:30 AM
Catechesis on Pilgrimages, Indulgences and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Penitential Service, Confessions
1 PM
Eucharistic Celebration at the Cathedral
Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning the month of August 2008 to June 28, 2009, are set as the pilgrimage days. Other days may also be set depending on the availability of the facilitators. The parishes will please coordinate with Mrs. Malyn Salvador at the Chancery (722-2018) for scheduling. The deacons will facilitate the formation sessions. The parish priests are to lead the pilgrims, hear their confessions and celebrate the Mass. They are to coordinate with priests to help in the confessions. The schools are to arrange pilgrimages in coordination with their chaplains and/or school directors.
Let us make most of this grace before us this Pauline Jubilee Year. And let us be reminded that this is part of a year-long focused endeavor at Conversion, Renewal, Evangelization and Mission.
God bless you and your loved ones.
